Sadly, even equity actors in Chicago have to have at least a part time day job. There's simply not enough paid work to go around. That's why I was suggesting freelancing and or working in design/web stuff -- at least then you could be employed as an artist both on and off the stage. That's my hope, I'd love to design by day and act at night.
There's aren't enough paying opportunities for actors anywhere. All the actors I've ever met who make a living at it do a combination of theatre, movies, and TV. And have spouses with steady, well-paying jobs. :)
I don't know why the links at the top don't work for you. I do all my viewing in Firefox and it works fine. Do you have Flash installed? Can you see the menu at all?
I can see it just fine, and it responds to my mouse, just doesn't go anywhere when I click. I have flash installed in both IE and Firefox and can't get the menu to work. Knowing my computer(its on its last legs) its just not working for me :).
Excuse my questions if they seem a bit silly, since the only things I've learned about theatre culture is from reading this comic. I had always naively assumed that several regular paying shows could help bring in enough cash.
I'm sorry that the menu's not working for you. I've tested it on my computer and my work computer and it works fine. Do any other Flash sites give you problems?
As for the acting question, it's not silly at all for someone who's not an actor. One could probably scrape by on five union shows a year, but there's so many more actors than union houses in the city that it's just not likely. Unless you're in Wicked or Jersey Boys. :/

If there are not a lot of paying opportunities in Chicago, where can you go?
Also, I can get the links at the top of the main page to work..is it just in firefox?
